This manual documents PuTTY, and its companion utilities PSCP, PSFTP, Plink, Pageant and PuTTYgen. This leads to alternative programs based on its code, such as KiTTY, which add additional features. PuTTY is completely free and open-source. ![]() Click on Install and wait for the installation to complete. ![]() ![]() Here we recommend you save the file in the root of the Windows C:\ drive. Select a location to save the installation and click on Next. This means that, after opening the program, you will be able to log in directly to the device you want to control. Once downloaded, double-click the msi file and click on Next to run the installer. To ease the remote control of other devices, PuTTY lets you save the data of the devices to which you connect and add a name to them. If everything works correctly, you will be able to execute commands on that device. ![]() To access it, all you need is an IP address, port, username, and password. 1 Download the installer Visit the PuTTY for Windows external site and click the appropriate installer.msi link to download the latest version of PuTTY. Via PuTTY, you can remotely run a terminal and execute commands on another device. Open a web browser to visit the official PuTTY download site at Step 2. With it, you can remotely control a device with Linux OS in your local network or in any another, as long as you have the access credentials and the device supports remote command execution. PuTTY is the most widely used Telnet and SSH client in the world.
